Do You Own Your Business?

In this day and age when nearly every brick and mortar business has an online presence there have been many posts and messages going around in various forms, promising, urging, encouraging and drawing us to believe that setting up a website formises a vital ingredient to success.

I can hear the constant mantra of, “If you build it, they will come.” Hey, that’s a cliche, but you get the point.

So why do so many of us fall prey of these self- Scheming predators?

These guys pose as the best of the best. They often include testimonials, awards and e-mails from high profile celebrities. I think it’s a cliche, but do each and every person who will ever write a review or post a comment on your wall give you a testimonial by their actual name? No. Do each and every person who wants their business to get found on Google include a link to their contact information? No.

These people are promoting their business for free with your hopes of an ever-growing audience, experience or as they put it ….their “4-Letter Word.”

So what I advise in my best business practices course is to check what these people have to say about your business first. I know, I’m being ignorant, but something about your business needs to be evaluated through some real-world challenges.

How does your plan look? How financially sound is your approach? How’s your bottom line? How does it look after awhile? All the things I’ve tested have came back negative. Why? An automated auto-responder has been bought for a few bucks, the “best practices” membership application will only cost you about $97 and the complete website design instructions (which are usually on your front page) cost your business $500. So your probable success with Internet Marketing in the Internet Marketing system for you is strictly limited by your own belief, knowledge and ideas.

To see my take on success and implement my own success incorporated in the steps I use to make money on the internet I’d be lying if I told you that I haven’t been on your side.

As with many people in business, I have had emotions get in the way, experiences that I wish I had had, hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled and now that I’m in business again you have the opportunity to spread the word about your business for free.

What’s the bottom line, how’s the money coming into your business? Is the business growing, having expansion, profit or a balance of the two? What’s the current statistics on your site? What’s the incoming traffic? You may. Maybe you may not. But a thorough evaluation of your website’s code, your web host’s, your goals, your website bandwidth, your hosting, your traffic flow and your expenses will tell you.

If you rely heavily on a large and rapidly growing promotion vehicle you may consider it an information highway for… well whoever can pay.

When searching for a program that will help you navigate the Internet Marketing landshoot try to imagine what it would be like if I were a potential customer who was searching for information on Internet Marketing and came upon your site. Would the site you’ve chosen be of interest to me? Does it offer more than a push here and a push there? Does it make me want to visit again, refer it to a friend or give away something to me as a freebie?

(By the way… Would you guess why the next target is for a business plan is the Alarming Pattern of Failure?)

Use a website search engine to locate the right business for you.
