Selling products online for profit can be one of the best ways to start an online business.. The benefits are endless.. You don’t have to own a store.. You have no over head costs.. Depending on what product you want to sell, the start up costs can be minimal.. Here’s 3 reasons why you wont make money.

Reason #1: You can’t target the right audience.

If I told you to go out to the mall and open a shop that sold just sand.. And that’s what I mean by this reason. How many people do you think will buy what you have? Not many. Many people have had great success selling products online. Yet the “keyword research” required, can be a long and arduous process. If you want to know what people are searching for, use Google’s Keyword tool.. Make sure to tick off the different search terms that people are typing in. Once you know what people are typing in using “google”, then go out and find a product that you can offer that solves a problem. You can find what works if you’ve done the keyword research properly.

Reason #2: Doing your keyword research is the most important part.

To me this is the most important factor when doing any sort of marketing online. There are three different ways you can go about doing this..

The first way is to go out and look at what people are buying. You may be told then that “something like this doesn’t sell”, but what if you asked test shoppers instead? What would they buy? You could even sit down and plan out how you will market this product in your shop.

The second way is to go out and put yourself in the place of the buyer. What will you be looking for? What information will you be seeking.. Is it product information or a feasibility study or a product comparison? If you go this route, you will actually be putting yourself in the place of the buyer. Once you know what they will be looking for, you can then get to work your marketing and promoting.

The third way is to do some research and get yourself in the position of the seller. How will you measure up? Are you prepared to do your research? Will you be there to take the orders? Is your writing style and design ready? These are all questions you need to answer before you can start marketing your product and website.

Reason #3: Anyone can do this… but only YOU will make money.

It’s about a few possibilities though.. You can do your keyword research.. You could make a newsletter.. you can set up a site.. or you can pay for advertising.

Once you have done your research, and know what product you are going to offer, the decisions are easier. Don’t be tempted to go for the quicker methods (pay per click, pay per view, etc) These are by far less risky and can give you quicker results but definitely not your main objective.

You see, the internet is a great medium for you to start with, why not take advantage of it to make some extra money?Look at items around your house then chose one product out of it and began the process of whichever way suits you best.. The only thing not on your mind is – “If it’s this easy to make money then everyone would be doing it!”

So just go out and try it for yourself.. Make sure you have the discipline and commitment, and it wont be long before you start making some real progress on products online for profit.
